Family Program at Northeast Parent & Child Society provides foster and
pre-adoptive foster homes for abused and neglected children from birth
through age 21. As members of a nationally accredited agency, Northeast
foster parents and staff are some of the most highly trained and
talented professionals in New York State.
A proud partner with many
communities throughout upstate New York, Northeast has offices in
Schenectady, Albany, Castleton, Johnstown, Oneonta, Queensbury, Hudson,
and Catskill, ensuring local support for our foster families in our
30-county service area.
Services
It is our ultimate goal to
help children reunify with their families, achieve permanency in an
adoptive home, or develop the skills they need to live independently as
young adults.
-
We conduct
comprehensive screenings of our children and foster families to
ensure ideal matches. We determine which child would benefit most
from each foster parents’ individual strengths, knowledge and
skills.
-
All
foster families receive pre-certification training using MAPP (Model
Approach to Partnerships in Parenting). MAPP is a nationally
recognized training model for prospective foster parents. Families
learn not only about the children they will be welcoming into their
home, but also about how they will play a crucial part in the
healing and re-unification process.
-
Each child and foster family is assigned a highly skilled family
specialist who will provide regular in-home therapeutic
counseling and support services. additionally, other professionals
are available to provide a wide range of additional services to
enhance the experience of the child and foster family.
-
to
ensure our foster parents are current with the latest skills,
Northeast offers ongoing training to help foster parents with the
unique challenges of caring for our children. These training
opportunities are provided through a variety of venues
including on-site, in home, web based, group conferencing and more.
Benefits
-
Northeast has a
comprehensive system of training and support for foster parents to
maximize positive outcomes. Foster parents receive extensive initial
training and continuing education. Foster parents and children have
immediate access to our support staff any time, day or night.
-
Northeast makes every
effort to place foster children in their home community, as youth
with the least disruption in their lives have the greatest chance of
achieving permanency. By keeping a child in the home area, foster
parents help preserve their communities.
-
Foster parents can make full- or part-time commitments. Part-time
foster parents who welcome children into their home on a temporary
basis are a vital part of our program. They offer the breaks our
foster children and parents may need in order to achieve success.
-
Some of the children in our foster program become freed for
adoption, giving foster parents the chance to provide a child with a
lifelong home.
-
A generous monthly
allowance for the care and support of our foster children is
provided.
-
All of our foster children have full health and wellness coverage,
ensuring they get the professional help they need.
-
Foster parents and children have access to special Northeast events
like parties, community events, outings and social programs.
-
Extensive online resources including discussion groups, training
materials, feedback to and from program staff and connections with
other foster families are available.
