Northeast Parent & Child Society Benefits from
GE’s Earth Day Projects

Saturday, April 24, 2010

April 27, 2010; Schenectady, New York – Eighty GE Volunteers from the Capital Region marked GE’s Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 24 by taking buses to work side by side with 40 youth from Northeast Parent & Child Society on a variety of beautification projects. Volunteers created raised gardens, flower boxes and planted bushes. They also cleaned up grounds and painted porches and garages. A $3,775.00 grant from the GE Volunteers Foundation fully funded the projects.

Three hundred GE Volunteers participated in Earth Day volunteer events at 12 Capital Region sites. GE, Northeast Parent & Child Society’s Signature Sponsor, donated nearly $300,000 in 2009 and contributes thousands of volunteer hours every year.

“We are very proud to be a link in the 121 year partnership between GE and Northeast Parent & Child Society,” said John E. Henley, President and CEO of Northeast Parent & Child Society. “GE’s Earth Day is a wonderful example of the difference we make by working together.”

About Northeast Parent & Child Society and GE:

For the past 121 years, GE and Northeast Parent & Child Society have been building better futures for children, families, and the communities where we live. We share the longest continuous partnership between a corporation and a child welfare agency in the United States. GE has provided Northeast hundreds of dedicated Board Members, thousands of volunteers, and millions of dollars in financial aid and in-kind support to help more than 100,000 troubled children and families. In February 2004, the Child Welfare League of America presented GE the prestigious Corporate Friend of Children Award to honor this remarkable relationship.
